Antique and vintage shopping

Antiques, vintage, and Victorian charm

Some of the best antique shopping near Dallas is on a courthouse square: a three-story vendor mall, vintage clothing, architectural salvage, church and charity thrifts, flea markets, and estate sales, all within 25 minutes of our tiny home.

Waxahachie calls itself the Gingerbread City for its Victorian trim, and the same spirit fills its shops: old storefronts stacked with oak dressers, cast iron, vinyl, crystal, and racks of real vintage clothing.

Flea markets and pickers' events

April and September

Antique Alley Texas

Eight towns, with Waxahachie on the east end

A twice-a-year antiquing trail through Alvarado, Cleburne, Grandview, Joshua, Keene, Maypearl, Venus, and Waxahachie. It starts the third Friday of April and September, so the next one begins Friday, April 16, 2027. Only the Waxahachie stops are within our 25-minute radius; the rest make a big day trip.

June and September

Vintage Market Days South Central Texas

Ellis County Expo Center, 2300 W. Hwy 287 Bypass, Waxahachie

A three-day market of hand-picked vintage, antique, and handmade vendors. In 2026 it ran June 19 to 21 and September 18 to 20: Friday early buying $15, Saturday $10, Sunday $5. Watch for the 2027 dates.

Pop-up

Junk in the Trunk

Around the courthouse square

Ellis County vendors set up around the courthouse with everything from handmade goods to pre-owned collectibles. The visitors bureau lists it as quarterly; check its calendar for the next date.

The everyday flea market is the Red Barn, open five days a week downtown.

Estate sales and garage sales

  • Estate sales: EstateSales.net listed 16 sales around Waxahachie in early October 2026, run by more than a dozen local companies. Most run on weekends, roughly 9 or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check the week you visit.
  • Early for the good stuff, late for the deals. The first morning has the best selection, and many companies cut prices on the last day.
  • Garage sales: Saturday mornings are prime. Find them on Facebook Marketplace and local buy-and-sell groups, Nextdoor, and Craigslist, then follow the signs.
  • Bring cash in small bills. Plenty of sellers don't take cards.

The downtown pickers' circuit

Outside Antique Alley weekends, there's no official pickers' trail downtown, so here's ours. Saturday works best.

Victorian Waxahachie

The shopping is half the fun. The other half is the town itself.

  • The Ellis County Courthouse, built from 1895 to 1897 in pink granite and red sandstone, anchors the square. Look for the carved faces in the stone.
  • The Gingerbread homes: Victorian houses dripping with carved trim line the streets around downtown. A slow drive is a free tour.
  • The Gingerbread Trail, the first weekend of June, opens some of those homes to visitors.
  • The Ellis County Museum, 201 S. College St., is free and fills downtown's oldest building, from 1889.
  • The historic Rogers Hotel, on N. College St., now holds John's Place, The Dessert Spot, and a retro arcade downstairs.

More in our 48-hour Waxahachie guide.

Tips for a good haul

  • Bring measurements of the wall, the corner, or the doorway at home, and a tape measure.
  • Check inside the malls. Several of the best vintage shops are booths inside bigger stores.
  • Ask before you leave a big piece. If you need to come back with a truck, ask the shop whether they'll hold it.
  • Go early for furniture. The good pieces go first, especially on Saturdays.

Room for your finds

  • Room for a truck at your door, and trailers are welcome with prior approval: send us the length and width.
  • About 8 minutes from the square, so you can drop off a load and go back for round two.
  • Sleeps up to 7, for the whole antiquing crew.
  • A covered porch at sunset to show off what you found.
