How it works

  1. Get temporary housing approved. Ask your adjuster about Additional Living Expenses (ALE), sometimes called loss of use coverage. It pays reasonable housing costs above your normal living costs while your home can't be lived in. Limits and time periods depend on your policy.
  2. Send us your dates and paperwork. Use our booking form, choose "Insurance temporary housing," and put your claim details in the message.
  3. We confirm with your insurer, then hold your dates.
  4. Sign the stay agreement and move in.

What we need from you

  • Your claim number and insurance company
  • Your adjuster's or housing coordinator's name, phone, and email
  • Written approval for temporary housing (an ALE or loss of use approval), or a placement from your insurer's housing company
  • Your estimated repair timeline
  • The names of everyone staying, and any pets

Whether your insurance pays us directly, books through a housing company, or reimburses you, we just need the approval in writing before we confirm a long stay.

For adjusters and housing coordinators

Placing a family? The tiny home is detached and fully furnished near Waxahachie, TX; see what's here and our long-stay policy. Two things coordinators usually ask: stays of 30 or more consecutive days are exempt from Texas hotel occupancy tax, and we share the exact address once a stay is confirmed.

Send placement requests through our booking form and choose "Insurance temporary housing."

Our long-stay policy

  • Insurance-approved only. Stays of 30 days or more are only for families with written temporary-housing approval from their insurance company, and we verify it before confirming.
  • Set dates, in writing. Every long stay has a written agreement with a move-in and move-out date. An extension needs updated approval from your insurer.
  • House rules: up to 7 overnight guests, no parties or outside visitors, and quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

We're sorry you're dealing with this. If we can make the in-between a little easier, we'd be glad to.

Questions we get

Does homeowners insurance pay for temporary housing in Texas?

Many homeowners policies include Additional Living Expenses (ALE), also called loss of use coverage. It pays reasonable extra living costs, like temporary housing, while your home can't be lived in. Limits and time periods depend on your policy, so ask your adjuster.

How long can we stay?

Stays of 30 days or more are for families whose insurance company has approved temporary housing in writing. Your dates go in a written agreement, and an extension needs updated approval from your insurer.

What paperwork do you need?

Your claim number and insurance company, your adjuster's or housing coordinator's contact information, written approval for temporary housing (or a placement from your insurer's housing company), your estimated repair timeline, and the names of everyone staying.

Can my insurance company or its housing provider book for us?

Yes. We're happy to work with your adjuster or your insurer's housing company. Whether they pay us directly or reimburse you, we need the approval in writing before we confirm a long stay.

Can we stay a few nights before our claim is approved?

Yes. Book a short stay on VRBO or Airbnb like any other guest. Stays of 30 days or more need your insurer's written approval.

Is the tiny home furnished?

Yes. It has a full kitchen, a full-size washer and dryer, a queen bed on the main floor, two queen air mattresses in the loft, a sofa that sleeps one, fast WiFi, and heat and air conditioning. Bring your clothes and you're set.

Can we bring our pets?

Yes, with prior approval and a small pet fee. Tell us about your pets when you send your paperwork.

How many people can stay?

Up to 7 overnight guests. For a stay of a month or more, it's most comfortable for 1 to 4 people.

Do we pay hotel tax on a long stay?

Texas exempts guests who stay 30 or more consecutive days from hotel occupancy tax. Tell us in writing before your stay and you're exempt from day one; otherwise the exemption starts after day 30.

Let's get you somewhere comfortable.

Send your dates and claim details, and we'll take it from there.
