Girls' trip

A girls' weekend near Dallas

Boutiques on the square, brunch, side-by-side massages, wine downtown, and a farmhouse porch for the late-night talk. Thirty-five minutes from Dallas.

Plan my tripSee every event on your dates, from festivals and football to Christmas lights.

A girls' weekend doesn't need a flight to Nashville. Thirty-five minutes south of Dallas, Waxahachie has a courthouse square lined with boutiques, a winery and two breweries within a few blocks, massage studios that book friends side by side, and a big country sky for the late-night porch talk. It's close enough that the friend with the toddler can still come, and far enough that it feels like a trip.

We host a tiny home on farmland outside town that sleeps up to 7. This guide is everything we'd tell a group of friends planning a weekend here: where to shop, brunch, get pampered, make something together, have a night out, and what the house is really like for seven women and one bathroom. Every business we feature was rated 4.3 stars or higher on Google when we checked, unless we say otherwise.

A girls' weekend plan

Everything here is described further down. Swap pieces in and out depending on your group.

The boutique crawl on the square

Downtown Waxahachie is small enough to walk in an afternoon and has more women's boutiques than most towns twice its size. Start on College Street, loop Franklin and Rogers, and end near Monroe for coffee. Many shops close Sunday and Monday, so Saturday is the day. These are our crawl picks; the full list, plus antiques and outlets, is in our shopping guide.

Bachelorette and birthday weekends

Waxahachie works well for a low-key bachelorette or a milestone birthday: a day of shopping and spa time, a big dinner, and a night of wine, axes, or two-stepping. A few things to know if you stay with us:

  • The party happens out, not at the house. House rules are no parties and no outside visitors, and quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Up to 7 overnight, all booked through the booking channel.
  • Plan the ride home before the first drink.

Wedding planning ideas, from venues to hair and makeup, are in our Waxahachie wedding guide.

Photo spots for the group picture

  • The Ellis County Courthouse: pink granite and red sandstone, and one of the most photographed courthouses in Texas. Downtown, about 8 minutes from the house.
  • Railyard Park and the Katy depot: a red caboose and the 1908 depot on S. College St., easy for a fun group shot.
  • The porch at golden hour: rocking chairs and open farmland at the house. In October the sun sets around 6:55 p.m.
  • Matching hats: Boot Barn, then the courthouse steps.

More spots, with golden hour times by month, are in our photo spots guide.

The tiny home for a girls' weekend

Here's the honest version, so nobody's surprised:

  • Beds: a queen bed on the main floor with a premium mattress, two queen air mattresses in the loft up a wooden staircase, and a sofa that sleeps one. That's 7, cozy. Five or six is roomier.
  • One bathroom with a walk-in shower, right off the queen bedroom. Stagger your showers and get ready in shifts.
  • A full kitchen: make the mimosas and the charcuterie board yourselves, or have UberEats or DoorDash bring dinner to the door.
  • Evenings in: an LED fireplace, a smart TV for a movie night, and a covered porch with rocking chairs facing 1,800 acres of farmland.
  • The sky: real stars come out after dark. See our stargazing guide.
  • What it doesn't have: no hot tub and no pool.
  • Details: self check-in, free parking at the door, a washer and dryer, and fast WiFi.

Good to know: tips for a girls' trip here

  • Shop on Saturday. Lots of boutiques close Sunday, Monday, or both.
  • Book spa time and big brunch tables a week or more ahead, especially in spring.
  • Check the event calendar before you pick a weekend. Festival Saturdays are fun but crowded, and downtown parking fills. See our events by season.
  • Bring layers. The porch cools off fast after sunset in spring and fall.
  • Friends flying in: of the two Dallas airports, Love Field is closer than DFW, and an airport pickup on the way down saves a rental car.
