The Waxahachie Sports Complex is where Ellis County plays: more than 100 acres of baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields on US-287, with turf and lights on all eleven diamonds. Travel teams come from all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana for weekend tournaments, and parents spend a lot of hours between the bleachers, the concession stand, and the car.
We host a tiny home about 7 minutes from the fields. This guide has everything a tournament family needs: the fields and the rules, the rainout line, upcoming tournaments, breakfast before an 8 a.m. game, where a whole team can eat, what to do between games, and where to stay. Every restaurant we feature was rated 4.3 stars or higher on Google when we checked, unless we say otherwise.

The fields and facilities
The city calls the complex a home for league play, tournaments, and organized events, and it has hosted local, regional, and state tournaments. In 2025 the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation named Waxahachie its Small City of the Year.
| Sport | Fields | Lights |
|---|---|---|
| Baseball | 5 | All 5: 4 youth fields and 1 adult field |
| Softball | 6 | All 6 |
| Soccer | 13 | 3 lighted, 10 unlighted |
| Football | 2 | 1 lighted |
- Turf: baseball and softball fields 1 to 11 are artificial turf. The grass is Bermuda.
- For families: a sports-themed playground, a two-mile hike and bike trail, open green space, restrooms, and concession stands.
- RV parking: available, with no utility hookups.
- Safety: three AEDs on site, one at the shop building behind softball field 1 and two mobile units.
- Shade: reviewers mention shade trees and covered stands at the diamonds.
The complex is rated 4.5 on Google by about 550 reviewers, who praise the turf, the parking, and how clean it's kept. Their complaints are small: restrooms without air conditioning and a few scoreboard lights out. Full details are on the city's Sports Complex page.

Rules to know before you go
These come from the city's complex page and its park rules. Your tournament may add its own, so read the event page too.
- No alcohol, no smoking, and no glass anywhere on site.
- Dogs: leashed, and not allowed in the bleachers, the concession areas, or the plaza. Clean up after them.
- On the turf diamonds (fields 1 to 11): no metal spikes, no sunflower seeds, and no gum.
- Food: one company holds the food and drink contract, so outside food vendors and team food trucks aren't allowed. The city's rules don't mention coolers, so check your tournament's rules.
- No practices or scrimmages: the complex is for scheduled games only. For a warm-up swing, see batting cages below.
- Music has to stop by 11 p.m., and the gates are locked overnight. City parks close at 10 p.m. unless an event has a permit.
Rain, lightning, and the rainout line
Turf drains fast, so the diamonds usually play unless conditions are unsafe. Grass fields close in rain and can stay closed for several days. All fields close for at least 30 minutes after lightning within 10 miles, and for thunderstorms, snow, ice, or freezing temperatures.
- Call the rainout line at (972) 938-5719, or check the Waxahachie Parks & Recreation Facebook page.
- Ask your league or tournament director, who gets the final word for your games.
- Know the timing: for league nights, the city makes a first call before 4 p.m. and a second after 5 p.m. On tournament days, updates come out around 5:30 a.m.
Locked your keys in the car? The city says to call Waxahachie police at their non-emergency number, (469) 309-4400.

Where to stay for a tournament
The closest hotels are on US-287 and Civic Center Lane. When we checked, the best rated were Fairfield by Marriott (4.4, about 10 minutes from the fields), Holiday Inn Express & Suites (4.3, about 6 minutes, with an outdoor pool), and Hampton Inn & Suites (4.2, with an indoor pool). Tournament weekends fill them fast, so book when the schedule comes out. Every hotel in town, with pet policies and pools, is in our where to stay guide.
The Waxahachie Tiny Home
Seven minutes from the fields, and a washer for the uniforms.
Built for tournament weekends
- One house for the whole family: a queen bed on the main floor, two queen air mattresses in the loft, and a sofa that sleeps one. Bring the grandparents.
- A full-size washer and dryer: clean uniforms between Saturday and Sunday games, without a hotel laundry line.
- A full kitchen: pack the cooler, make sandwiches, and skip a few restaurant tabs.
- Room for the team trailer: trucks and equipment trailers are welcome with prior approval. Send us the length and width first.
- Quiet nights: farmland, no hallway noise, and quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., so the kids actually sleep before an 8 a.m. game.
- The dog can come: pets are welcome with prior approval and a small pet fee.
It's a family house, not a team hotel: up to 7 overnight, with no parties or outside visitors. Ask about booking direct, or check our dates on VRBO.
Good to know: tournament weekend tips
- Bring your own shade and a wagon on soccer days. The covered stands reviewers mention are at the diamonds.
- Turf gets hot in the Texas sun. Pack extra water and a cooling towel, and give the little siblings a break at the playground or Hooky.
- Book team dinners early on big tournament weekends, when lots of teams are looking for a table at once.
- Gate fees depend on the tournament. USSSA event pages list the spectator gate fee for each event, often as TBA until close to the date.
- Pack a change of clothes for the ride home. Muddy grass-field days happen even when the turf is dry.
